Brave by Rose McGowan, released 30th January
Actress and activist McGowan was integral in bringing down Harvey Weinstein and was featured in TIME 's Person Of The Year issue. Her long-awaited memoir chronicles her childhood spent in a cult as well as her, often painful, time in Hollywood.
Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, in UK cinemas 12th January
Put Frances McDormand in a small town and I'll watch it. Here she plays the mother of a murdered girl who purchases three billboards to shame the police into actually solving the crime. Expect pitch black comedy and great performances.

First Aid Kit, Ruins, out 19th January
Who doesn’t love First Aid Kit? No one, that’s who. Klara and Johanna Söderberg’s debut album Stay Gold (released all the way back in 2014 – how innocent we were then) was packed with sun-drenched, folky harmonies and judging by the three tracks we’ve heard so far, Ruins will continue in the same vein. Which is exactly what we need right now, don’t you agree?
Downsizing, in cinemas 24th January
Leaving aside Matt Damon and his apparent inability to shut the hell up, Downsizing has a lot going for it. Namely the magnificent Kristen Wiig. A comedy satire in which writer and director Alexander Payne ( The Descendants, Sideways) imagines a world where scientists have figured out how to shrink people, Neil Patrick Harris and Laura Dern are also on the cast list. Plus the trailer is soundtracked by Talking Heads’ “Once In A Lifetime” aka My Favourite Song Ever. Sign me up.

Lady Gaga, Joanne UK Tour, from 31st January
Gaga returns to the UK to fulfil dates cancelled earlier this year. Expect a two-hour extravaganza of crowd-pleasing hits like "Edge of Glory" and "Bad Romance", performed in gravity-defying heels, surrounded by flames. Casual. Tickets to the cancelled gigs are still valid.
Will & Grace, from 4th January on Channel 5
Expect to see a whole lot more of Debra Messing and Eric McCormack in 2018, as the ninth season of Will & Grace returns to our screens. All the more reason to stay indoors in January. Plus, we all need some sassy relief from the car crash that has been 2017.

This joyous exhibition and homage to ABBA is the perfect cure for the January blues. Get close to never-before-seen items from the Swedish pop sensations’ archive, including personal notes, memorabilia and those famous costumes.
London Short Film Festival, from 12th-21st January
The London Short Film Festival turns 15 this year and the programme is worth celebrating. There will be screenings of Barbara Hammer’s work and the pioneering lesbian filmmaker will answer Qs afterwards. Ngozi Onwurah (the first black British woman to have a feature film released in UK cinemas) will also be toasted with a legacy screening of her rare works.

Before the much-loved museum closes its doors for a two-year redevelopment, I'll be getting myself down to their Farewell Party Weekend for cocktails, street food and live music.
Molly's Game, in UK cinemas 1st January
Jessica Chastain plays Molly Bloom, the 'poker princess' of an exclusive high-stakes game who built a multimillion dollar empire. Chastain has yet to let me down (in every one of the four films I've seen her in), so I'm ignoring the mixed reviews and choosing to blast my NYE hangover out of the water with this true-story crime drama.

Ty Segall, Freedom's Goblin, out 26th January
I hadn't listened to Ty Segall until a friend dragged me along to see him at this summer's End of the Road festival. Since that aggressive, face-melting show I've had him on repeat. His new album drops in January and I can't wait to see what new pysch-cum-garage-rock tunes he brings us next.
American Crime Story: The Assassination of Gianni Versace, January date TBC
For fashion, it's arguably been the year of Versace. With Donatella receiving an accolade at the Fashion Awards, plus her recreation of her brother Gianni's supermodel-spangled iconic AW91 show, all eyes have been on the legendary fashion house. This show could be cheesy or heavy handed, but I'm fascinated to see Ryan Murphy's depiction of the brand's founder's untimely death.

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Season 3 (second half), 6th January
If I could choose one show to get me through the January blues it would be Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. I’m obsessed with Rachel Bloom’s musical comedy-drama and its hilarious feminist songs couldn’t be more pertinent in the current climate, sadly. I’m digging the more risqué tone of the third season so far and can’t wait for the upcoming episodes.
The Post, in UK cinemas 19th January
Spotlight, Nightcrawler, Frost/Nixon, All The President’s Men, The Devil Wears Prada... I’m a sucker for any film about journalists and the media, which all somehow manage to make it seem impossibly, misleadingly glamorous. I’m sure Steven Spielberg’s The Post, starring no less than Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks, will teach me a lot about the momentous Pentagon Papers.
