Turkey Forest Fires, 25th July

Forest Fires In The South Of France, 25th July
People enjoy the beach as they look at a forest fire in La Croix-Valmer, near Saint-Tropez, on 25th July 2017. Firefighters battled blazes that consumed swathes of land in southeastern France for days, with one inferno out of control near the chic resort, emergency services said.
One Love Manchester Benefit Concert, 4th June

On 22nd May 2017, a homemade bomb was detonated in an act of Islamist terror as people were leaving Manchester Arena following an Ariana Grande concert. Twenty-three people including the bomber were killed, and over 500 were injured.

Grenfell Tower Fire, 14th June 2017
Thick acrid smoke rises into the cloudless sky as over 200 firefighters from across London continue to tackle the blaze at Grenfell Tower. Crews were called just before 1am to the high rise block on the Lancaster West housing estate in White City. The fire caused 71 deaths, including one stillbirth, and over 70 injuries. Occupants of 23 of the 129 flats died, and 223 people escaped.

Total Eclipse Of The Sun, 21st August
A total eclipse with the 'diamond ring' effect is seen from South Mike Sedar Park on 21st August 2017 in Casper, Wyoming. Millions of people flocked to areas of the US that were in the 'path of totality' in order to experience a total solar eclipse. During the event, the moon passed in between the sun and the Earth, appearing to block the sun.

Kim vowed to complete North Korea's nuclear force despite sanctions, saying the final goal of his country's weapons development is "equilibrium of real force" with the United States, state media reported.

Bangladesh Refugee Crisis, 20th September
A Rohingya refugee boy desperate for aid cries as he climbs on a truck distributing aid for a local NGO near the Balukhali refugee camp on 20th September 2017 in Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh. More than half a million Rohingya refugees have flooded into Bangladesh to flee an offensive by Myanmar's military that the United Nations has called "a textbook example of ethnic cleansing". The refugee population is expected to swell further, with thousands more Rohingya Muslims said to be making the perilous journey on foot toward the border, or paying smugglers to take them across by water in wooden boats. Hundreds are known to have died trying to escape, and survivors arrive with horrifying accounts of villages burned, women raped, and scores killed in the "clearance operations" by Myanmar's army and Buddhist mobs that were sparked by militant attacks on security posts in Rakhine state on 25th August 2017. What the Rohingya refugees flee to is a different kind of suffering in sprawling makeshift camps rife with fears of malnutrition, cholera, and other diseases. Aid organisations are struggling to keep pace with the scale of need and the staggering number of them – an estimated 60% – who are children arriving alone. Bangladesh, whose acceptance of the refugees has been praised by humanitarian officials for saving lives, has urged the creation of an internationally recognised 'safe zone' where refugees can return, though Rohingya Muslims have long been persecuted in predominantly Buddhist Myanmar. World leaders are still debating how to confront the country and its de facto leader, Aung San Suu Kyi, a Nobel Peace Prize laureate who championed democracy, but now appears unable or unwilling to stop the army's brutal crackdown.

Hurricane Maria, 27th September
Irma Maldanado stands with Sussury her parrot and her dog in what is left of her home, which was destroyed when Hurricane Maria hit on 27th September 2017 in Corozal, Puerto Rico. The island experienced widespread damage, including to most of the electrical, gas and water grid as well as agriculture, after Hurricane Maria, a category 4 hurricane, passed through.
Las Vegas Shootings, 1st October
A man lies on top of a woman as others flee the Route 91 Harvest country music festival grounds after an active shooter was reported on 1st October 2017 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Stephen Paddock fired on thousands attending the concert from his room at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino across the street, killing 59 people and injuring more than 500 before turning the gun on himself. The photographer witnessed the man help the woman up and they walked away.
Theresa May Handed A P45, 4th October

Mount Sinabung Volcano, 17th October

Sinabung roared back to life in 2010 for the first time in 400 years. After another period of inactivity it erupted once more in 2013, and has remained highly active since.

Wedding In The Philippines, 21st October

Paulo Mamayo Ambor, 22, a resident of Marawi who got displaced by the fighting between government troops and IS-inspired militants, wed Katty Malang Mikunug, 22, a resident of an adjacent town in Saguiaran. Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte declared Marawi liberated, following the death of Abu Sayyaf leader Isnilon Hapilon and one of the Maute brothers, Omar Maute, after nearly five months of fierce urban battle inside the besieged city. The fighting started on 23rd May and left more than 1,000 people dead, while displacing at least 400,000 people.

Texas Shootings Memorial, 7th November

Mugabe's Resignation, 21st November
The portrait of former Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe is removed from the wall at the International Conference centre, after his resignation on 21st November 2017 in Harare. Robert Mugabe was swept from power as his 37-year reign of brutality and autocratic control crumbled within days of a military takeover. The bombshell news was delivered by the parliament speaker to a special joint session of the assembly which had convened to impeach Mugabe, 93, who has dominated every aspect of Zimbabwean public life since independence in 1980.
